design, build & commissioning

Fabrit designed, manufactured and commissioned custom assembly lines for a manufacturer of care beds. The project covered the assembly of bed frames and front panels, integrating material transport between workstations and mechanical handling of heavy components.

The objective was to improve production flow, reduce manual handling, increase operator ergonomics and prepare the assembly process for higher production capacity.

Challenge

The original assembly process was based on separate worktables. After each operation, operators manually moved heavy frames from one workstation to another.

At one stage of the bed-frame assembly process, the complete frame also had to be manually rotated. This created significant physical strain, limited workstation ergonomics and made further increases in production output difficult.

The customer required a solution that would organise the assembly flow, eliminate unnecessary manual transport and make handling of large components safer and more repeatable.

Implemented solution

  • Dedicated assembly lines arranged according to the sequence of production operations.
  • Integrated material transport between consecutive workstations.
  • Mechanical frame rotation system on the bed-frame assembly line.
  • Workstation layout designed to improve component flow and operator ergonomics.
  • Mechanical handling solutions reducing the need for lifting heavy components.
  • Complete design, manufacturing, installation and commissioning by Fabrit.

Results

The new assembly line layout eliminated manual transport of heavy components between workstations and removed the need for operators to manually rotate the bed frames.

The project improved workplace ergonomics and safety, stabilised the assembly process and increased assembly productivity by approximately 20%.

The reorganised production flow also created a better foundation for further automation and future capacity expansion.
