Vision Inspection Rewinding Machine for Tax Stamps

For a manufacturing client, Fabrit designed and delivered a rewinding machine equipped with an integrated vision inspection system for tax stamps (banderoles).

The objective of the project was to automate the previously manual inspection process, increase throughput, and eliminate human-related inspection errors.

Client Challenge

Previously, tax stamp inspection was performed manually. Operators visually checked print quality and overall correctness of each banderole.

The manual process resulted in:

  • limited inspection capacity,

  • high operator workload,

  • risk of overlooking defects,

  • inconsistent quality control results.

The client required a solution that would automate both the rewinding process and the inspection, ensuring objective and repeatable quality verification.

Scope of Work

Fabrit was responsible for:

  • development of the machine concept,

  • mechanical design of the rewinding system,

  • integration of the drive system,

  • integration of the vision inspection system,

  • implementation of pneumatic expanding shafts,

  • commissioning and process optimization.

Implemented Solution

The developed machine is equipped with two driven reels, allowing bidirectional rewinding of the banderole roll.

During rewinding, the integrated vision system performs continuous quality inspection, detecting print defects, damage, and inconsistencies in real time.

The machine features pneumatic expanding shafts, enabling quick installation of reels with two different core diameters. This increases operational flexibility and significantly reduces changeover time.

The solution ensures:

  • stable web guiding,

  • controlled rewinding speed,

  • repeatable and objective inspection results,

  • efficient handling of different roll formats.

Results

    • full automation of the rewinding and inspection process,

    • significant increase in inspection efficiency,

    • elimination of errors associated with manual quality control,

    • improved consistency and reliability of inspection results,

    • reduced changeover time thanks to pneumatic expanding shafts,

    • enhanced production flexibility.
